EPA-Protocol Methodology

Sampling

&

Reporting

01 — Bulk Sampling

Suspect ACM is collected per EPA 40 CFR Part 763 sampling protocols. Sample locations, quantities, and homogeneous areas are documented in the field log.

02 — PLM Laboratory Analysis

Samples are submitted to an NVLAP-accredited laboratory for Polarized Light Microscopy analysis. Chain-of-custody is maintained and included in the final deliverable.

03 — Written ACM Report

The final report identifies all ACM and PACM by location, condition, and friability rating. Format supports contractor submittals, permit applications, and regulatory audits.

Is an AHERA inspection required before demolition or renovation?

Yes. EPA NESHAP and Oregon DEQ rules require a thorough asbestos inspection by a certified inspector before any renovation or demolition of commercial, industrial, or public buildings. Residential structures above a certain threshold also require inspection under local ordinances.

+ Compliance Questions

What Contractors and Municipalities Ask

Does the report satisfy government and school district requirements?

Yes. Government and municipal projects receive the same AHERA-compliant documentation format as commercial clients. Reports include the inspector's certification number, chain-of-custody lab records, and ACM condition assessments required for public agency submittals.

Regulatory requirements for asbestos surveys vary by project type and jurisdiction. These answers address the documentation standards that Oregon and Washington clients most often need to verify.

What is the difference between a Type I and Type II survey?

A Type I (Management) survey locates ACM that could be disturbed during normal building operations. A Type II (Pre-Demolition) survey is more invasive and required before structural demolition. Stone Forest Environmental scopes and documents both under AHERA protocol.
